Summers in Bonton is always exciting and fun for the kids in the community. Our KIDS team works hard every year to make Turner Courts the place to be during summer. This year is no different. Every Monday through Thursday, our team will be hosting actives in the gym ranging from science experiments to arts and craft to games. We also are working with Dallas Afterschool and iStation, an award-winning e-learning platform, to provide academic enrichment to students, preventing learning regression between school semesters. Afternoon extra-curricular activities include volleyball, cheer school, flag football, basketball, and this year, lacrosse.
The kids will also have opportunities to go on a number of field trips during the summer break. In the past, these have included the Perot Museum, water parks, and Jump Street. This year students will be able to look forward to new trips plus a few opportunities to earn spots at the State Fair’s Olympic Games, Dallas Mavericks Hoop Camp, and Girls on the Run camp.
Coach Shaun, director of BridgeBuilders KIDS, said that last summer was extremely rewarding for him and the team. His favorite moment of last year was watching the end of summer highlight video (available to watch here). “The video gave all of the students and their parents a stronger sense of community. After watching it, everyone realized the joy of the summer experience and were looking forward to the next one.”
Ways to Help
The summer program will be starting in June (as soon as the gym remodel courtesy of the Dallas Mavs Foundation and DHA is completed). We are still looking for volunteers to serve in facilitating the summer activities. The KIDS program is also looking for educators who would be willing to volunteer their time and expertise for academic enrichment and tutorial times. If you are interested in joining us and serving this summer, please reach out to Coach Shaun.
