“Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.” This old proverb is nothing but a platitude for many of us, but it is a principle that is transforming the lives of many people in South Dallas.
CitySquare is an organization in Dallas that exist to fight the causes and effects of poverty through service, advocacy and friendship. They provide countless opportunities for people to be trained and find sustainable jobs through their Workpaths program, which trains people in the construction and hospitality fields. Among the many people that they serve are members of our very own neighborhood, Bonton.
As a Community Achievement Coach for BridgeBuilders, Vonda Harris works hard to connect the residents of Bonton to CitySquare so that they might be equipped with whatever means necessary to secure a living-wage job. Three people who have recently benefitted from her efforts are Sharon, Israel, and Leroy. Sharon has enrolled in hospitality training, Israel has graduated from the construction program, and Leroy has graduated from the electrician program and recently secured a job in that field. These are just a few examples of individuals who are being equipped and restored in South Dallas through our staff’s efforts to walk with residents toward life transformation.
If you would like to be connected to job training programming, give us a call at (469) 621-5984 or come by the office at 6601 Bexar St. Dallas, TX and ask for Vonda Harris!
