Adopt-A-Block: Singles Return to Dorris Street

The Prestonwood Young Singles ministry had some unfinished business on Dorris Street. They returned on June 15th for this month’s edition of our Adopt-A-Block initiative in order to continue the projects they started in April, as well as begin a new project for our co-founder, Velma Mitchell. These faithful volunteers served 6 families with beautification projects, such as fence repair, lawn service, and painting, and engaged 20 additional people on Dorris Street by handing out BridgeBuilders flyers and connecting them to our programming.

The mission of Adopt-A-Block is to restore relationships under the banner of Christ by engaging our community one block at a time through the provision of standard residential upkeep and building of community. In this way, we are able to care for those who are vulnerable and in need (James 1:27). The Lord blessed us on this June Saturday by allowing us to see the fruit of our labor when volunteers were able to pray for Cynthia Smith. With tears running down her face, she said, “Thank you for coming to serve my family.” This was truly a picture of the Spirit’s work through the church and the restoration of relationships.

Every month, we will partner with volunteers to engage our community through Adopt-A-Block. If you want to be a part of the restoration of relationships in Bonton, sign up for the July 20th Adopt-A-Block on our VOMO page!
